About The Councils Headline

The Middle Deschutes Watershed Councils are comprised of landowners, land managers, and other natural resource–based entities from a diversity of backgrounds and interests. Our focus is on the ecological health of streams in Jefferson County which are tributaries of the Middle Deschutes River. We work and live within an agricultural and rangeland–based economy, and as such, seek to balance stream health with the economic health of our communities. North and northeast of Madras, the Trout Creek watershed is comprised of approximately 700 square miles of forest, rangeland, and agricultural land that drains to the Deschutes River. Southeast and west of Madras, the Willow Creek Watershed drains 181 square miles from its headwaters in the western edge of the Ochoco Mountains, to Lake Simtustus, a seven mile reservoir on the Middle Deschutes.
